52 Ovation by Silverton Launches New Yacht SeriesNovember 1, 2007 - 2:38pm — George Sass Jr.
Silverton Marine, www.silverton.com, is the latest company to incorporate the Volvo IPS drives into a new design. The company's new Ovation yacht series uses triple IPS drives. One of the many benefits of the IPS drives is that they allow the engineers to move the engines farther aft since there is no need for long shaft runs. On the Ovation 52, 30-inches of usable space is created. Belowdecks, there are three staterooms, including a forward V.I.P. Ocean Yachts Launches 37 BillfishOctober 30, 2007 - 7:32pm — George Sass Jr.
One of the highlights on the fall boat show circuit has been the sweet Ocean Yachts 37 Billfish. While other builders are coming out with larger and larger craft, Ocean identified the market demand for a 37 footer designed solely to raise fish. The styling and single purpose mission will remind boaters of similar boats of the 1960s. While the sleek 37 Billfish sports a bridge, it incorporates standard features that distinguish it from other Ocean models. The most noticable is the absence of an after saloon bulkhead. Just as noticable is the prescence of a full windshield. Boat Towing TipsOctober 29, 2007 - 4:09pm — Katie OLeary
Tow ratings can be a confusing subject, as there are several kinds of ratings and many things to consider when estimating the weight of your tow. Start by referring to your vehicle’s operating manual for maximum ratings. Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) is the maximum weight a specific vehicle can tow. When estimating the weight of your tow, be sure to include fuel, water and any additional gear you have stowed aboard. The Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) is most important because it combines the total weight of your tow vehicle, including passengers, fuel, luggage, gear, etc. and the weight of your tow. For your safety and trouble-free towing, do not exceed the ratings listed by your tow vehicle.

Predictable Surprise : The Sea Ray 330 Combines Sound Performance and Innovative DesignOctober 4, 2007 - 4:57pm — George Sass Jr.
During the last 8 years, I’ve run a number of Sea Rays for this magazine and other marine publications. Each time I’m confronted by a juxtaposition of predictability and surprise. I basically know that I’ll be testing a solid performer packed with all the creature comforts. However, I’m always surprised that with each new model the builder incorporates design elements and features that leave you saying, “What a great idea, why hasn’t anyone thought of that before?” The new 330 Sundancer, which fills the gap between the 310 and the 340 vacated by the now discontinued 320, presented me with this same winning equation and gave cause to repeat this phrase on several occasions.

Chris-Craft 29October 4, 2007 - 4:22pm — George Sass Jr.
There is no doubt that under the new ownership of entrepreneurs Stephen Julius and Steve Heese, Chris-Craft is building fine-looking boats. A Corsair Launch in my marina spins heads every time the little dame sprints down the river on a sunset cruise. And the interiors of the Roamer series are as functional as they are elegant. In my opinion, this aesthetic assault on the senses has been a major component of the builder’s success during the last five or so years. Well, after having spent some time on the new 29 Catalina, I’ve learned about the other components to this success; great engineering, construction and performance. This makes it tough to avoid cliches such as the 29 is not just another pretty face. But there’s no way around it! The eye-catching lines of the 29 would motivate the dead to get up and give her a little pat on the stern. After you dig deeper, you’ll discover this sex appeal is only a small part of this center console’s winning formula.

Get Connected: SeaKey Offers Valuable Benefits to Boat OwnersOctober 4, 2007 - 3:54pm — Anonymous
To keep track of your boat, whether it’s at the dock, on the trailer in your driveway, or headed to cruising grounds beyond the horizon, a remote position monitoring system is an up and coming utility that deserves a little attention. While the core technology here has been available in the auto industry for several years, it’s just beginning to take hold in recreational boating.
