New BoatsExpert Advice On How To Find The Right BoatMarch 28, 2007 - 10:57pm — Scott Shane
By way of a brief introduction, I’m a marina rat, past marine magazine editor and current sales manager for a mid-size dealership in the Northeast. My last ride was a 27-foot semi-custom center console mostly used for fishing. Since my time on the water has dwindled, I decided to replace the center-console with a little more creature comforts. So I recently purchased a used 31-foot express-style, diesel-powered fishing boat. Predictable Surprise : The Sea Ray 330 Combines Sound Performance and Innovative DesignOctober 4, 2007 - 4:57pm — George Sass Jr.
During the last 8 years, I’ve run a number of Sea Rays for this magazine and other marine publications. Each time I’m confronted by a juxtaposition of predictability and surprise. I basically know that I’ll be testing a solid performer packed with all the creature comforts. However, I’m always surprised that with each new model the builder incorporates design elements and features that leave you saying, “What a great idea, why hasn’t anyone thought of that before?” The new 330 Sundancer, which fills the gap between the 310 and the 340 vacated by the now discontinued 320, presented me with this same winning equation and gave cause to repeat this phrase on several occasions.

Marlow Explorer 57 Skylounge : Marlow MarineAugust 14, 2007 - 1:34pm — Anonymous
We’re gearing up to cover Marlow’s Explorer series in a complete editorial. The problem is, we’ll have to make sure we have enough pages to cover these worldclass cruisers in our editorial page budget. Founded by marine veteran, David Marlow, Marlow Marine builds the Explorer series from 53 to 86 feet, and the 37-foot Prowler. David has been cruising and selling boats almost his entire life. The yachts bearing his name reflect this expeirence and his practical approach to boatbuilding.
Southern Comfort : The Grady Whte 305 Express is Perfectly Suited for Offshore Fishing or Family Cruising.August 14, 2007 - 1:12pm — Anonymous
A longtime industry stalwart, Grady-White has been building boats since the 1950s, starting with modest wooden lapstrake fishermen. Now catering to tournament fishermen as well as families, Grady’s upscale center console, dual console, walkaround and express models from 18 to 36 feet brook no conflict between form and function. The essence of practicality, Gradys have, for example, no below-deck fish boxes; bins, boxes and wells are all are situated above the waterline, draining directly overboard, eliminating clog-prone macerators and drain pumps. Instead, the voids between hull and cockpit liner are pumped full of foam, making the boats (including the 30-plus footers) unsinkable, even if the hull is ruptured.

“George, are you sure?” he cautioned on the other end of the line from Ft. Lauderdale, “that’s heavy stuff.” |
